Lamp Compilation

With two weeks until the controlled assessment deadline, I am feeling very proud of the work the product design class as created. When they went on show for Yr 9 options evening they proved to be very popular. I look forward to this years Young Designer competition and feel confident we may have a few winners.

More Lamps

As the pupils finish their controlled assessment final models I will post them for you to look at.
NathanWalton- I have posted Nathan's model previously however he felt the purple polypropylene did not quite look right. Therefore we changed it to a red.  The design looks much stronger and gives is an oriental feel.

Nathan Walton's design disassembled. This is how a buyer would find the product in a box. They would will have to assemble the product at home with an instruction manual.

Billy Mather-  Inspired from a motorbike.  Although this design is supposed to have an automotive feel, it has taken an eco tilt. The oak base is a recycled desk, the checker plate is from a scrap yard, the MDF is from a building site, the acrylic links are a donation from a local business and the tin can, until yesterday was full of hoops which I had for lunch.

The creation of a product- start to finish

This video shows the creation of a car from sheet metal to rolling off the production line.  Very inspiring and surprising to see how few people come into contact with the vehicle and also how the line never stops.

Yr 10 iPod docking station card models

Yr 10 are working well and are almost ready to begin manufacture of their iPod docking stations. Here are a dew card concepts which the pupils have been working on. Pupils have been inspired by different themes, some concepts are based on a design movement or era.  Some pupils are often inspired purely by the materials available to them.

Completed Controlled Assessment models

Jon Bentley- Inspired by 'Tron'. This design has been laser cut in 2 acrylic colours and placed on a beechwood base.  The acrylics are finger-jointed for flat-pack assembly.

Jack Forster- Inspired by a jellyfish. This design has partly been created on the laser cutter creating the main body. The stand in pine, has been manufactured on the woodworking lathe and the base in oak has been manufactured on the engineering lathe.

Nathan Walton- Inspired by 'flat pack'  This design can be dissassembled completely and stored in a small box. The concept has been wholly laser cut in plywood and finished in black paint. It has inter-changable inserts (purple in photo, red also available) to suit the customers home decor.
I feel very confident this year that we will be successful in achieving a good percentage of A-C grades.  With 3 weeks left to go 3 pupils have finished their coursework models. and I think they look great. All work, all look professional and all have the potential to be manufactured to industry standards. I will posts more as and when they are completed.
